Angelo Brocato

For over 100 years, Angelo Brocato has been a New Orleans institution serving delicious ice cream, pastries, and candies. Angelo Brocato Sr., the founder, opened his retail shop in the French Quarter in 1905. The French Quarter at the time had many Italian Immigrants. This made Angelo Brocato very popular among its local neighbors.  His first flavor was torroncino, a vanilla-based gelato. He also produced the famous Granita al Limone, which was very popular among the French Quarter residents. Through perseverance, high-quality products, and hard work Angelo Brocato managed to survive through the Great Depression, World Wars, and Hurricane Katrina. Today, the shop is located on North Carrollton in the Mid-City neighborhood. It is still run by the Brocato family and their delicious treats still put smiles on their customers’ faces.
