Living Room
When you step foot into this stunning late 19th-century cottage you will walk into a large living room with 13-foot ceilings. You will notice the gorgeous hardwood floors. The large living room measures roughly 19.3 X 21.1. It features a spacious kitchen, an entertainment area, and a large dining room. The interior wall of the front entrance has original wood from the cottage. 1516 Governor Nicholls has received an award from PRC Award Winner. You have endless options to customize the living room to fit your lifestyle.
Kitchen
The kitchen is a state-of-the-art masterpiece. You have everything you would ever want including custom cabinets, plenty of counter space, and updated appliances. The space measures roughly 15.5 X 31. The granite countertops are an elegant beige color that compliments the dark custom cabinets. The kitchen island is large enough to cook while also large enough for cheese boards, finger food, and wine. It includes four counter stools, perfect for entertaining. The stove-top is gas, excellent for cooking.
A special feature that I loved is a side door in the living room that opens to a walkway to the backyard. This makes it perfect for gatherings with friends and families
Bathrooms
There are two bathrooms in this stunning home. The first bathroom is the guest bathroom. It features a walk-in shower. Your guests can use this bathroom instead of going through the back of the house to use the master bathroom. The master bathroom is located in the master bedroom. There is a sliding barn door that adds privacy. The large bathroom has double sinks and a bathtub. I prefer walk-in showers but enjoy baths so this home offers someone like me both options.
Bedrooms
The two bedrooms are very roomy. The guest bedroom can be converted into an office or can be used as a second bedroom. Regardless, the room is extremely cozy and large enough to fit a desk, a small dresser, and a queen-size bed. The master bedroom is drop-dead gorgeous. The rectangular room has a great layout. It is large enough for a bed, two side tables, a dresser, a bookshelf, and a tv stand. The master bedroom has a large walk-in closet. You also have access to the outdoor patio. You can wake up and easily open the door and let your four-legged friend do his morning business or just enjoy your morning coffee and newspaper.
Backyard
1516 Governor Nicholls has one of the nicest backyards I have seen in the Historic Treme area. There is a large patio that can fit plenty of outdoor furniture, pots, and decorations without feeling clustered. Half of the backyard is concrete and stone which keeps the maintenance low. The grass area currently has an orange tree and a few other flowers.
Neighborhood
Neighborhood
Treme is one of the oldest French Quarter neighborhoods. Its history dates back to the mid 19th century. On Sundays, African Americans congregated in Congo Square, which is now in Armstrong Park, to socialize and preserve their cultural traditions. The influence of the culture remains strong to this day. Treme exemplifies these traditions by holding several cultural events in museums, parks, and community centers throughout the year. A few famous places in the area include Louis Armstrong Park, Congo Square, and Treme Backstreet Cultural Museum.
What to Expect
Expect many events and festivals dedicated to embracing African American history and culture. There are incredible BBQ and Southern Style food options at Willie Mae’s Scotch House. You will be able to walk to the French Quarter in minutes.
