About the French Quarter

The French Quarter is known around the world for Bourbon Street, restaurants, nightlife, and tourism.  However, what most people don’t know is that the French Quarter is primarily a residential neighborhood. Homes, condos, and rentals in the French Quarter are generally more expensive than other parts of the city, but residents are willing to pay a little more for everything the French Quarter has to offer. Dozens and dozens of historic and wonderful bars, restaurants, and shops are within a short stroll. Beautiful landmarks from the late 18th and early 19th centuries such as Saint Louis Casino, Jackson Square, the French Market, the Cabildo, and Presbytere are quickly accessible on foot.  Whenever you feel like taking a nice stroll or enjoying a quiet moment outside, the Mississippi River is just outside your back door. Additionally, the charming courtyards found in many of the buildings of the French Quarter are an added bonus for residents. If you love being in the middle of the action, the French Quarter is the place for you, however, it’s wise to take into consideration that parking is limited and there is quite a lot of activity year-round.

What to Expect

You can expect never to be bored if you live in the French Quarter. You will always have somewhere to eat and something to do. You can eat at famous restaurants and bars all within a 10-minute walk. In fact, New Orleans’ oldest bar is Antonio’s bar and it is celebrating its 175th anniversary. You will admire the French and Spanish-style condos, bungalows, and cottages built 200 years ago. You will fall in love with the beautiful courtyards and wrought-iron balconies. The neighborhood is extremely walkable and you may find that you never need to use your car.
