606 Third Street
Introduction:
Welcome to 606 Third Street. This gorgeous 100-year-old cottage sits in the booming neighborhood of the Irish Channel. Not only is the location excellent, but the layout of the 1,200 square feet has endless possibilities to make 606 Third Street a perfect home.
House
606 Third Street is a 3-bed, 2-bath home. When you open the front door, you will walk into an ample living space with a large living room that measures roughly 13 feet by 26 feet. Walk through the living room to the back of the house to find a dining room and updated kitchen. The kitchen has custom cabinets, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances. The kitchen features a small counter that can fit two to three bar stools. I would personally expand the bar area to add extra space for entertaining guests. You also have enough room to add a bar cart.
You will have easy access to the backyard from the kitchen. The backyard is a small courtyard with no grass. Perfect for someone like me who is super busy and does not have time to do yard work. The three bedrooms and two updated bathrooms are very spacious.
Currently, the ceilings are low. However, the home’s framing is suitable for 11-foot ceilings. Raise the ceilings, add some love to the bathrooms, and expand the bar area. The possibilities are endless. Schedule a showing today!
The Neighborhood
The Irish Channel is a historic neighborhood located on the riverside of Magazine between Jackson Avenue and Louisiana Avenue. Residents in the Irish Channel enjoy the walkability of the area. You will also get to enjoy famous Irish Pubs such as Parasols, Tracy’s, and Atchafalaya.
The Irish Channel prides itself on its rich history and friendly community. Despite its name, the Irish Channel was settled and developed by a diverse group of working-class families in the 19th century. This included a large group of German, Irish, and Italian immigrants, people of color, and native-born people. Many Irish immigrants settled in this area in the 1830s to work on the construction of the New Basin Canal.
Today, the neighborhood is full of colorful cottages and shotgun homes. There are many breweries, bars, restaurants, and parks in the neighborhood. Every Saint Patrick’s Day, the streets line- up with people in green clothing, green beer, and a fun parade that everyone at any age can enjoy. Anyone can find something to love about the Irish Channel with the neighborhood events, history, architecture, and food scene.
