Center Hall Homes History
Center Hall is a popular architectural style in the American South and especially in New Orleans. Most Center Hall homes in New Orleans have raised cottages and are Greek Revival. The stairs to the front porch happen to be in the center of the home. You will find a large porch with double gallery windows, typically 2-3 on each side of the front door. When you open the front door, you will step into a hallway that goes from the front door to the back of the house and creates a versatile floor plan.
Interior
As soon as you open the front door, you will be amazed by the immaculate design and layout of the 9,000+ square foot home. When you first walk in you will find a long hallway that leads to the back of the house. On your right, you will find a large formal entertainment room. The room has high ceilings, elegant crown molding, and my personal favorite, a set of French Doors with arch doorways. The living room features double gallery windows so you will have plenty of natural light. Next, you will enter the large dining room that has a gorgeous chandelier. The chandelier and crown molding make it perfect for hosting an elegant dinner, but with the warm character of the house, it can also make a perfect casual night with the family and good friends.
The layout of the kitchen is perfect for someone who LOVES to cook. The chef’s kitchen features a 10-burner Southbend Range, Miele appliances, and large amounts of cabinet space perfect for storing items and keeping your kitchen cabinets organized. The island features a sink, wine fridge, and coffee bar which is perfect for entertaining with a charcuterie board and large enough to cook on. The leather-finished marble countertops, classy backsplash, top-notch appliances, and custom cabinetry all create a sophisticated aesthetic perfect for entertaining, cooking with friends and family, and enjoying your morning coffee.
As soon as you exit the kitchen, you will enter the living room that is perfect for curling up and watching Arrested Development with the pup or watching the Saints with friends. The room has large floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the backyard. Next to the room, you will find the library large enough for a desk and a sunbed. The library also has custom shelving perfect for people (like me) with tons of books.
As I mentioned before, when you walk in the front door, you have a formal entertainment room on your right. On the left side of the hallway, you will find the owner’s suite. The master suite is very spacious- measuring roughly 16 feet by 33 feet. There is a luxurious bathroom featuring Carrerra marble floors and a large walk-in shower. The suite also features a gorgeous walk-in closet to fit all your clothes, accessories, and shoes.
Head upstairs to find three huge bedrooms with two luxurious bathrooms. The layout of the second floor is perfect. It is spacious enough that everyone will have privacy.
The back house is the ideal man cave or guest suite. The backhouse has two separate rooms, its own kitchen, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. The current owner used the main living room as an office. I personally see the main room as the pool house with a pool table, a ping-pong table, and storage for beverages so pool water does not get tracked into the main house. The second room is very intimate. The ceilings have exposed beams. There is a kitchenette perfect for a bar. Enjoy an old-fashioned with some friends while talking about politics, business, and more.
Exterior
Not only is the interior of 2912 Prytania gorgeous, but the exterior is also breathtaking. The wrap-around porch makes for a perfect spot to relax. The wrap-around porch also provides the interior with lots of natural light. Enjoy winding down while admiring the front porch and its columns, iron railing, and porch swing. The yard includes a neatly landscaped side and front yard with a mini-pond. The backyard has a secluded pool. All of these are perfect for Mardi Gras parties, playing fetch with the dog, and enjoying spring afternoons with your loved ones. If you happen to have five cars, this house has enough room for all of them!
The Neighborhood
2912 Prytania is located on Prytania Street in the Garden District. The 2900 block of Prytania sits in the middle of Louisiana Avenue and Washington Avenue. You can walk to all the incredible restaurants and bars on Magazine and St. Charles. You will also be a short walk to The Rink which is a high-end neighborhood shopping center with boutiques, a delicious coffee shop, a hair salon, and the Garden District Book Shop. If you want to dress up and have a nice meal out, walk to the world-famous Commander’s Palace in under 10 minutes.
